KSRTC Munnar village services are suspended due to a dispute between the MLA and Transport Minister, leaving commuters stranded.

Munnar: An escalating dispute between the local MLA and Transport Minister Ganesh Kumar has left passengers in Munnar in deep trouble, with the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) cancelling several of its village services for the past two days.

As many as six services operating from the Munnar depot to Suryanelli, Koviloor, and Silent Valley remain suspended. These routes, which usually generate good revenue, are now facing severe disruption, leaving daily commuters and villagers struggling for transport.

The rift between the MLA and the Minister stems from the decision to construct a mini shopping complex at the Old Munnar depot using KSRTC funds. The MLA had earlier proposed that new buildings be constructed at the location using his Asset Development Fund, but this plan was sidelined.

Tensions escalated when both the National Highways Authority of India and the local panchayat issued stop memos against the construction. Reports suggest that senior KSRTC officials, citing the involvement of local political leadership in the stop memos, ordered the cancellation of the village services.
