Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday granted anticipatory bail to rapper Vedan in a case alleging rape on the false promise to marry. The court had earlier reserved its order on his bail plea, which was moved after an FIR was lodged against him by a young doctor.

Giving bail to Hiran Das Murali, more popularly known by his stage name Vedan, Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas observed that the registration of a new crime against the rapper or the possibility of another crime being registered cannot be a consideration in the current case.

The complainant in the case had also appeared through counsel before the court and had opposed the bail, stating that Vedan had done the same to other young women as well.

She also claimed she met Vedan through Instagram, and after messaging him, they exchanged phone numbers. It was also stated that Vedan had promised to marry her, and they engaged in a physical relationship on various occasions.

In his bail application, Vedan claimed that the de facto complainant had reached out to him, stating that she was a fan of his, and thereafter, they had kept in touch with each other. Subsequently, they developed a consensual relationship and the complaint was filed by her because of some differences of opinion between them, reports LiveLaw.

Earlier this year, the High Court granted bail to Vedan in another case of alleged possession of a leopard tooth.
