Thiruvananthapuram: The final voters' list in 1200 local bodies in the state has 2,83,12,472 electors according to the list published by the State Election Commission (SEC) Kerala on Tuesday. The final voters' list was prepared based on polling booths in newly formed wards following the delimitation process. There has been an increase of over 16 lakh voters when compared to the electors in the draft list.
The list records 1,33,52,951 men, 1,49,59,245 women and 276 transgender persons. It includes those who turned 18 on or before January 1, 2025. In addition, 2,087 overseas voters have been registered. The final roll covers 17,337 wards across 941 grama panchayats, 3,240 wards in 87 municipalities and 421 wards in six corporations across the state. Applications were received till August 12 to make changes or entries in the list after the draft roll was published.
The draft list released on July 23 had 2,66,78,256 voters. During the revision, the Commission received 29,81,310 new applications for inclusion, 13,859 requests for corrections, 1,80,789 applications for transfer to another ward or polling station, and 4,88,024 objections seeking deletion of names.
The final voters’ list for the 2020 local body elections had 2,76,56,910 electors, comprising 1,31,72,755 men, 1,44,83,915 women and 240 transgender persons. At the time, 2,162 names featured in the overseas voters’ list. The SEC had done two summary revisions and ward-level revisions before publishing the draft voters' list in July.
In the 2023 summary revision, 8,76,879 ineligible names, those who had died, shifted residence, or had duplicate entries, were removed. In the same exercise, 57,460 new eligible voters were added. The 2024 revision further removed 4,52,951 ineligible entries and added 2,68,907 valid voters.
Following the recent ward delimitation, the existing voter lists were rearranged to align with the new ward structure. If any voter’s ward or polling station has changed due to clerical errors during this process, the Election Commission had authorised EROs to make corrections proactively.
