Unauthorised parking inside Thalayolaparamabu bus stand raises accident risk

Thalayolaparambu: Unauthorised parking of two-wheelers and other vehicles inside the bus stand at Thalayolaparambu in Kottayam is increasing the risk of accidents while also causing difficulties for buses and passengers.

Bus employees said they struggle to reverse and turn buses inside the stand as other vehicles are parked on one side and heaps of metal stones are piled up on the other. “Two-wheelers move in and out of the bus stand in a haphazard manner and an accident could happen at any time,” said a bus driver.

The employees added that no action had been taken to remove the stones or ban parking despite several complaints to the authorities. “We will stop paying stand fees if the problems are not solved immediately,” said bus owners.

The operators also urged the authorities to provide adequate seating arrangements for passengers at the bus stand, where more than 100 buses arrive daily.
