Periya: Motorists speeding along the stretch completed between Chattanchal and Mavunkal on the national highway may better watch out! Danger lurks at several points where drivers may lose control of their vehicles.
The difference in height levels following tarring has emerged as the main problem in these areas. It is enough to entangle speeding two-wheeler riders in accidents. The road is so uneven that even other motorists may lose control and meet with accidents if not cautious.
Similar `traps' exist at nine points between Chattanchal and Mavunkal. These include spots near the entrance of Chattanchal Thekkinparamba GUP School, two locations in Poyinachi town and one near Periyattadukka. Kuniya alone has three such danger zones.
The road remains uneven near the petrol pump at Periya and near the Central University of Kerala in Periya, where the underpass ends.
Although some of these spots have been marked with white lines, complaints persist that they are ineffective, as they become visible only at the last moment. Motorists driving at night are especially vulnerable. There is now growing demand for the installation of warning boards and reflectors at these points.
