The Mannuthy police on Wednesday arrested two men in connection with the robbery of a businessman on October 25. The accused, identified as Shyam from Angamaly and Niyas from Kalamassery, were arrested in Delhi and brought to Mannuthy for questioning.
The robbery occurred around 5 am when Mubarak, a businessman from Edappal in Malappuram, arrived in Mannuthy by bus, carrying cash from Bengaluru. A five-member gang, reportedly tracking his movements in advance, attacked Mubarak shortly after he got off the bus and fled with the money. One suspect was apprehended on the same day.
According to Mubarak, the ₹75 lakh stolen included proceeds from the sale of his vehicle and money withdrawn from the KSFE Edappal branch as part of a chit fund. He had transferred the entire sum to Canara Bank, Perumpadappu Branch, before withdrawing it.
Crucial leads emerged after investigators analysed CCTV footage of the getaway vehicle. Police confirmed that more individuals are involved in the conspiracy, and efforts are underway to track them down. A special investigation team, led by City Police Commissioner Nakul Rajendra Deshmukh, is continuing the probe.
