Thrissur: A businessman from Edappal, Malappuram, was robbed of a bag containing ₹75 lakh at Mannuthy early Saturday morning. Mubarak (53), who had arrived from Bengaluru by bus, got down at the Mannuthy bypass around 5 am and stopped for tea. He placed the cash bag near a medical shop before walking a short distance away.
An unidentified man wearing a cap grabbed the bag and tried to flee. When Mubarak tried to stop him, the robber pushed him down and escaped in a grey Innova car with his accomplices. According to Mubarak, the ₹75 lakh that was stolen included money from the sale of his vehicle and an amount withdrawn from the KSFE Edappal branch as part of a chit fund. He had reportedly transferred the entire sum to the Canara Bank, Perumpadappu Branch, before withdrawing it.
Mubarak, who sustained minor injuries, has been admitted to the hospital. Police have launched an investigation and are examining CCTV footage from the area.
