Kottayam: An 81-year-old woman was attacked and robbed of her gold bangle at Kurichy here on Sunday morning. The victim, Annamma, sustained injuries to her hand after the robber cut off her bangle.
Annamma’s husband told Manorama News that the incident occurred while his ailing wife was alone at home as other family members had gone to church for Sunday Mass. According to him, he does not know who barged into their house and fled with his wife's bangle after injuring her.
“We had gone to church at 8 am. When we returned around 11 am, she was not in her bedroom. Later, I found her in another room near the kitchen. Shaking with fear, she kept yelling, “Kill me!" he said.
“I could not identify her injury due to my vision problems. I called my son, and he noticed that she was bleeding. We immediately rushed her to the hospital,” he added.
Although all the doors were locked before the family left, one door at the back of the house was found open. It is suspected that someone familiar with the family’s routine carried out the robbery.
Annamma is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chethipuzha here. According to doctors, her condition is stable.
Chingavanam Police have registered a case and started the probe. With the rise in gold prices, similar cases of robbers targeting women have been increasing across Kerala.
