Kottayam: At Ruby Nagar, a Labrador named Ruby has become the cynosure of all eyes. The six-year-old dog, who risked her life to protect her family, has turned into a local hero after surviving a dangerous viper bite. Her dramatic recovery from the brink of death has become a moment of celebration in the neighbourhood.

Ruby belongs to Mullasseril Salim Kumar and his wife Sudha, who live near Assumption College in Changanassery. The incident took place around 9.45 pm on November 25, when a large viper was spotted beneath a scooter in their front yard. The family discovered it only after checking the yard in response to Ruby's persistent barking.

Though they tried to pull her away, Ruby refused to step back, and in the commotion, the snake bit her. Even then, she held her ground. Snake catcher Shijo Kuttissery of Vazhappally, who rushed to the spot after being alerted, managed to capture the viper safely.

Salim Kumar and Sudha then rushed Ruby to a private veterinary clinic at Thuruthy run by registered veterinary surgeon Unnikrishnan. By the time, Ruby was already in a critical condition. Yet, with prompt treatment and the family’s prayers, she fought her way back to life like a 'superwoman'.
