Kasaragod:
In a suspected case of suicide, a 19-year-old student was found dead in his rented home in Mangalpady grama panchayat on Wednesday. Kumbla police identified the deceased as Abdul Shihab, son of Muhammed Basheer and Nafeesa. He was a student of ITI, Kasaragod. The family, originally from Karnataka, had been living in a rented house at Cherugoli near Nayabazar for the past four months. His father, Basheer, works in Dubai.

On Wednesday morning, family members found him unresponsive inside his room. Police and neighbours said they are looking into whether emotional distress related to a relationship may have weighed on the youth.

“His phone had several messages from the girl, and even after his death, more messages were still coming in, asking him to call back or reply,” said former panchayat member Rafeeq Ahamed. “All we know is that she is from Ernakulam district,” he said. Kumbla police said they have taken the phone for forensic examination to understand the circumstances better.
