Alappuzha: Even while mourning the loss of her father, Jyothimol (Sandhya Benny) fulfilled her civic responsibility by casting her vote in the election to choose the president and vice-president of the Alappuzha District Panchayat.
Her father, Ramachandran (89), a retired ration dealer and cancer survivor, passed away on December 24. Though he had been in good health, his condition began to deteriorate on December 21.
Jyothimol, the CPI candidate who won from the Vayalar division, learned about her father's illness just as she was leaving for the District Panchayat office to take her oath. She rushed to her ancestral home immediately after the swearing-in ceremony. However, his health continued to worsen, and he passed away on the afternoon of December 24. His funeral rites were held on Sunday.
Jyothimol has a long record of public service, having served as a member of the Kadakkarappally Panchayat from 2010–2015 and as a member of the District Panchayat from 2015–2020. Her mother, Rathnamma, passed away six years ago. Ramachandran is also survived by his other children, Raveendran and Anilkumar.
