Idukki: The Kottappara tourist destination in Kerala's scenic hill district of Idukki has turned into what locals describe as a virtual waste dump. Plastic carry bags and bottles, glass liquor bottles, paper plates and cups, along with leftover food brought by visitors, are strewn across the rocky hilltop viewpoint.
The accumulation of waste has created a foul stench, causing considerable inconvenience to responsible tourists. Residents of the area also pointed out that shards from broken glass liquor bottles litter the site, frequently leading to injuries among visitors.
Considering the shocking situation at the tourist spot, local people have demanded deployment of the Haritha Karma Sena to clean the area on a regular basis. They also urged the panchayat to impose a fee on visitors to the area.
