Thodupuzha: The UDF has announced that it will provide employment to Nisa Shiyas (42), a widow who was terminated from her job at a cooperative bank controlled by the CPM after her son campaigned for a Congress candidate in the recent local body election in Kerala.

Chairperson of Thodupuzha municipality in Idukki district, Sabira Jaleel, and vice-chairperson K Deepak visited Nisa’s house on Friday to convey the UDF’s decision.

Nisa, who had lost her husband 11 years ago, had been working as a part-time sweeper at the Karikkode Cooperative Bank in Thodupuzha for the past 6 years. The CPM was provoked when Nisa’s 16-year-old son worked for Vishnu Kottappuram, the Congress candidate in ward 21, Keerikode, of the municipality in the local body poll, and the party sacked her from the part-time job.

However, it is learnt that there are differences within the CPM over the drastic action against Nisa. Some party members have even questioned certain comrades of theirs who posted on social media threats to quit the party if Nisa was not terminated from her part-time post.
