Kozhikode: Chief Minister of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday said the reason for suspecting a “hidden agenda” behind the proposed amendment to the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) is that it has been brought forward by the BJP-led government and reflects the ideology of the RSS.
Addressing the media in Kozhikode, the Chief Minister alleged that the move by the Centre could adversely affect hundreds of institutions run by minority communities across the country. He said the proposed changes appear to be part of a broader attempt to weaken such organisations.
“Through this bill, the BJP is implementing the RSS agenda. The RSS has made its ideological positions on Christian and Muslim communities clear in the past, and recent developments suggest a pattern of targeting minorities,” Vijayan said. He further alleged that during instances of attacks on minority groups, the RSS had stood with perpetrators rather than opposing such violence.
Vijayan also noted that the FCRA framework was originally introduced by the Congress party, but accused the current NDA government of using it in a manner that disproportionately affects Muslim and Christian organisations.
Meanwhile, amid strong opposition protests, the Centre has temporarily put on hold the introduction of the amendment bill in the Lok Sabha.
