Alappuzha: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday criticised the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, introduced by the central government.
Addressing the media in Alappuzha as part of the LDF election campaign, the Chief Minister alleged that the FCRA amendment is part of an RSS agenda against minorities, including Christians and Muslims.
“Freedom of social service organisations and charity projects for the downtrodden will be affected. The FCRA will hinder welfare programmes for the underprivileged in our society. Everyone is worried about it. Minority groups will face a major setback due to the amendment. It is part of a political agenda aimed at hampering social welfare projects and suppressing criticism against injustice. Kerala is demanding that the central government withdraw the amendment, which affects democracy and social justice,” he said.
He also told the media that he is not concerned about election survey results, recalling similar surveys during the last Assembly polls.
“People will vote according to their experience. The LDF won power for two consecutive terms because people trust us. We are not worried about the survey results,” he said.
Responding to questions about G Sudhakaran’s candidacy as a UDF-backed independent candidate in Ambalappuzha, the Chief Minister said that voters would elect LDF’s Salam. He also alleged a Congress-BJP deal in Ambalappuzha.
“Sudhakaran started his political career as a CPM worker. But now, he is trying to impress those who have joined hands with him,” he said.
Kerala will go to the assembly polls on April 9. The results will be announced on May 4.
