Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bounced back with a clinical 78-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in an IPL 2024 match on Sunday night. CSK rode on captain Ruturaj Gaikwad's classy 98 to make 212/3 after being put in to bat by Pat Cummins at Chepauk.
Daryl Mitchell regained form with a 32-ball 52 for the home side. Mitchell and Gaikwad added 107 runs for the second wicket. Shivam Dube (39 not out) continued his fine run as CSK went past the 210-run mark.
Medium-pacer Tushar Deshpande wrecked the SRH top order as his triple strikes left them reeling at 40/3 inside four overs.
Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana (2/18) too was among the wickets as SRH were bundled out for 134 in the 19th over. Deshpande finished with 4/27 from his three overs. Mitchell had a field day as he completed five catches.
CSK jumped to third spot with 10 points from nine games, while SRH slipped to fourth with 10 points from nine outings. This was the second second straight loss for SRH.
CSK host Punjab Kings in their next outing on Wednesday. SRH are up against table-toppers Rajasthan Royals at home on Thursday.
