Wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson has been included in India’s squad for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan in the national capital.
Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has also been named in the squad, subject to fitness clearance, as the selectors picked a group largely identical to the one that will represent India at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya later this month.
Afghanistan will ‘host’ India for the three T20Is, scheduled to be played on September 13, 15 and 17 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
Sanju was rested for the T20I series against Zimbabwe after the selectors said he needed a break. He returns to the squad following India’s recent T20I series against England and Ireland, in which the team endured a disappointing run.
The squad also includes all-rounders Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar, along with fast bowler Harshit Rana. Their availability for the Afghanistan series is also subject to fitness.
The squad closely resembles the Indian contingent selected for the Asian Games, which will be held in Japan’s Aichi-Nagoya region later this month.
Bumrah returns after being sidelined with a knee injury sustained during India’s ODI series in England. The injury subsequently ruled him out of the team’s two-Test series in Sri Lanka.
