I-League: Mohammedan SC edge Gokulam Kerala, consolidate top spot

Kozhikode: Gokulam Kerala FC suffered a heartbreaking loss for the second game running as they went down to Mohammedan Sporting Club 2-3 in the I-League here on Sunday.

The loss has almost dashed the Malabarians' title hopes.

Mohammedan SC took the lead through Eddie Hernandez in the 16th minute. Alexis Gomez doubled the lead seven minutes later. Noufal P N pulled one back in the first minute of added time as the visitors went into the half-time break with a 2-1 lead.

Nidhin Krishna drew level for the home side in the 65th minute. However, David Lalhlansanga struck the winner for Mohammedan SC in the seventh minute of injury time.

Gokulam had conceded a goal in added time to suffer a 1-2 shock loss to Namdhari FC in their last outing.

Mohammedan SC consolidated their position at the top of the table with 38 points from 17 matches. Sreenidi Deccan are in the second spot with 33 points from 16 matches. Gokulam remain in third place with 32 points from 18 matches.

Gokulam are scheduled to meet Real Kashmir in another home tie next Sunday (7 pm).
