Jakarta: The Indian contingent was given the customary welcome at the Asian Games Athletes’ Village here on Thursday.

The national hockey team led by P R Sreejesh was also present on the occasion.

India’s chef de mission Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh expressed happiness with the arrangements at the Village and exuded confidence that the athletes will put up a fine performance and do the country proud.

India have fielded a 572-member team and are aiming to better the eighth-rank position from the last edition in Incheon four years back.

They are expecting a rich haul in shooting and wrestling in addition to hockey, kabaddi, archery and athletics.

The Opening Ceremony is slated for Saturday at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.

Star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra will be the Indian flag-bearer at the Opening Ceremony.

Asian Games 2018 are scheduled between August 18 and September 2.
