Sathish Kumar suffers injury during weightlifting competition

Jakarta: Commonwealth Games champion Sathish Kumar Sivalingam suffered an injury during the weightlifting competition of the Asian Games here on Thursday.

Sathish sustained the injury while attempting 178 kg in clean and jerk of the 77 kg category. Fortunately Satish was able to roll the barbell away from him.

He was immediately attended to by the medical team. Sathish took no further part in the competition and ended up tenth, whilecompatriot Ajay Singh took the fifth spot with a combined effort of 327 (142 and 185).

Sathish had cleared 144 kg in snatch and 170 kg in clean and jerk.

The 26-year-old from Vellore in Tamil Nadu is the two-time Commonwealth Games champion.
