Hospitality Management: National entrance on May 28, apply online

An attractive career in hotel management awaits students who have passed the higher secondary Plus-Two course.

The national-level entrance exam for admission to three-year BSc Hospitality and Hotel Administration is on 28 May. The last date for the online application for the test is 3 May. Those interested can apply via nchmjee.nta.nic.in.

The computer-based test is called National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology Joint Entrance Examination (NCHMCT-JEE).

The 3-hour exam begins at 10 am. The National Testing Agency (NTA) would be conducting the test.

Those who clear the test are eligible for admission for 78 institutes at the national level, including 29 private institutes.

The 4 institutes in Kerala are:
* Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology, Kovalam (0471-2480283, www.ihmctkovalam.com)
* The State Institute Hospitality Management, Kozhikode (0495-2385861, www.sihmkerala.com)
* Munnar Catering College (04868-249900, www.munnarcateringcollege.edu.in)
* Oriental School of Hotel Management, Lakkidi, Wayanad (80866 22253, www.orientalschool.com)
(The first two institutes are of the governmemt and the latter two are in the private sector.)

The application fee is Rs 1,000. Candidates of Scheduled Caste/Tribe, persons with disability and transgender persons need to pay only Rs 450. Meanwhile, the application fee for Economically Weaker Sections is Rs 700.

Exam centres in Kerala
The five exam centres in Kerala are at Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Angamaly, Muvattupuzha and Palakkad.

In the entrance test there will be questions that test the Numerical Ability and Analytical Aptitude (30 questions), Reasoning and Logical Deduction (30), General Knowledge and Current Affairs (30), English Language (60) and Aptitude for Service Sector (50).

Eligibility
Those who have opted for any stream for Plus-Two and students who are currently pursing it can apply. However, the applicants shouldn’t exceed 25 years on 25 July. It could be until 28 years for SC/STs and persons with disabilities.

Reservation is available for deserving candidates including persons with disabilities. The candidates of backward communities would be considered based on the list provided on the central government website www.ncbc.nic.in.
