Thiruvananthapuram: The SSLC and higher secondary model examinations which were scheduled for February 28 have been postponed in view of bypolls in several wards and divisions of local self-governing bodies across Kerala on the same day.

The postponed exams would be held on March 4. There is no change in the exams on the other days.

Teachers against simultaneous exams

Meanwhile, there are widespread complaints about model exams. Both teachers and students have complained against conducting two exams on the same day, in the morning and afternoon sessions.

Conducting the Plus-One and Plus-Two exams together is also another issue. Up to three students can be seated on the same bench for the exam, as per the rules. But when the Plus-One and Plus-Two exams are being held at the same time, this is not feasible in schools with just higher secondary, teachers pointed out.

There are also complaints against scheduling the Class 8 and 9 annual exams in the afternoon session soon after SSLC public examinations are held in the morning. The teachers who will be on SSLC duty in the morning will have to report for the exam duty for Classes 8 and 9 in the afternoon as well.

High school teachers are assigned for SSLC duty in other schools, and after that it would be difficult for them to rush back to their own schools for the exam duty in the afternoon. Though the Education Department has directed that the teachers can take up the afternoon exam duty at the same schools where they are assigned for SSLC duty, complaints have been raised that there are practical issues with this arrangement.

Also, Class 9 students are entrusted with writing exams for the differently -abled students in Class 10, Plus-One and Plus-Two. These students, who have been assigned to write exams for the differently abled, will have to write their own exams afterwards.
