Kasaragod: The Revenue Department has pointed fingers at the Kerala Police for the tricolour being unfurled upside down by state minister Ahammad Devarkovil here on Wednesday.

The policemen who were stationed by the flagpost during the Republic Day ceremony have been mentioned as the guilty parties in the department's report.

Kasaragod district police chief has also tabled a separate report on the incident.

After media persons pointed out the error, the flag was lowered and raised the right way. The video of the incident has gone viral.

As per the protocol, the Revenue Department was liable to make the necessary arrangements for the flag hoisting event. The Kasaragod Village Officer was designated for the purpose.

However, it is understood that the events thereafter were the responsibility of the police, who were bound to perform a trial using a white cloth before giving the green signal for the actual flag hoisting.

However, neither the police officers designated for the event nor the minister figured out that the flag had been raised upside down.

INL suspects conspiracy
Meanwhile, the minister's party, Indian National League (INL) has demanded an enquiry into possible foul play in the incident.

INL state secretary MA Latheef said that while the incident was unfortunate, it was unfair to criticise the minister.

He said the attempts to blame the minister for the fiasco were possibly part of a conspiracy.
