The Supreme Court was considering a petition filed by quarry owners against the order of the Kerala High Court that land assigned under the Land Assignment Rules (1964) for agriculture, housing and such other purposes should be used only for the stated purposes.
The report said that the mass leave of employees had caused inconvenience to the public and sought action against them. The report was submitted to the Land Revenue Commissioner and the Minister on Wednesday evening.
Though local people reached the spot and rushed them to Adimali Taluk Hospital, their life could not be saved.
The woman had lodged complaints with the panchayat and the Kerala State Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, stating that she can't live in her own house due to the functioning of the quarry and is not able to sell the land
The trip by majority of the staff at the office by taking mass leave on a working day had become a major controversy with the area's MLA Jenish Kumar raising serious allegations.
According to the MLA, the Taluk Office staff had gone for the trip in a bus owned by a quarry owner. Kumar also demanded a probe into the circumstances of organising the trip.
The panchayat initially denied them permission but later granted it, after the group approached the High Court.
