Despite being crowned Miss Kerala last year, Gayathri Suresh never thought she would one day become a much-loved actress. But now, she realised her true calling: acting. Gayathri's debut film Jamnapyari will hit the screens this Onam. Yes, she's a newcomer, but not low on confidence. Onmanorama catches up with the young star in making.
“It was during the grooming of Miss Kerala contest that a friend of mine recommended my name to Kunchako Boban. In no time, I was approached for Jamnapyari, by the director himself. Since I was into modelling since quite some time, I was getting a few offers. But after hearing about Jamna Pyari, I immediately agreed as the role and the film was quite interesting,” said Gayathri.
Talking about the movie, the pretty lass said, “The film, touted to be a romantic comedy, imparts a social message in a humorous manner. Moreover, the film is set in my own native Thrissur. And so it was indeed easy for me to relate to. Apart from me, the movie features an array of female actresses such as Anumol, Muthumani and Roja.”

Gayathri plays Kunchako Boban's love interest and feels lucky to play opposite to him in her very first venture itself. “Ever since my childhood, I used to watch his movies.
Films such as Niram and Aniyathipravu are among my favourites. And now when I'm sharing screen space with him, I think it's pure luck and God's grace. In the film, I play the role of a MD student named Parvathy who is Vasoottan’s (played by Kunchako Boban) love interest. Parvathy is completely opposite to Vasoottan. I feel Parvathy is the best role I can get to start off my career.”

The diva, who is currently working in South Indian Bank, Thrissur considers acting as her passion and banking as her profession. “I always wanted to be into acting but that doesn’t mean I will quit my job. As of now, I want to balance both. My parents are my biggest support system. They have always motivated me to do what interested me.”
On her preference for acting to modelling, she said, “I feel acting is more up my alley. Modelling needs a lot of preparations. I was more comfortable while acting than walking on the ramp.”
“The shooting days were real fun and I really enjoyed those days.” Recalling the experiences, the actress said, “There was a song shooting in Pazhani and lots of people were around the location. To add to the leisurely mood, Soorajettan and a few began to sing the Hindi song Dum Maaro Dum and soon, everyone, including the mob joined us.”
When asked if she's nervous, Gayathri said, “Of course there is an air of tension, but I am happy about the opportunity I got. Performance is what matters in this field. Since the songs and promo teasers have been released, the film has been getting a good response.”
