Rain: Holiday for select schools in several districts in Kerala
Heavy rain over the week wreaked havoc in Kerala, claiming lives and destroying property.

Kottayam: Following heavy rain, holiday has been declared for a few educational institutions in Alappuzha district and Kottayam and Thiruvalla taluks in Kerala on Thursday.

Alappuzha collector declared a holiday for all educational institutions except professional colleges in the district. In Kuttanad and Chengannur taluks, even professional colleges will remain shut. Even though the rainfall has decreased in the region, the holiday is declared as several places continue to remain inundated in the district.

Educational institutions barring professional colleges will remain closed in Thiruvalla taluk on Thursday. All institutions in Pathanamthitta district functioning as relief camps will also remain shut on Thursday.

All educational institutions including professional colleges will remain shut in Vaikom taluk, Changanassery municipality region and Kurichi, Madappali, Payippad, Thrikadithanam, Vazhappali, Mutholi, Kidangur panchayats on Thursday.

All the examinations of Mahatma Gandhi University scheduled for Thursday and Friday have been postponed.

Heavy rain over the week wreaked havoc in Kerala, claiming lives and destroying property. The rain in southern districts was triggered by a depression off the Odisha coast.

As rain continued to lash the state, Railway authorities were forced to cancel 10 train services via Kottayam. The decision was taken after the water level in River Meenachil rose above the danger mark.
