Manjeswaram, Kasaragod: A CPM worker was stabbed to death in Uppala in the district late Sunday night.

Bike-borne assailants attacked him around 11.30 pm on Sunday. Though he was rushed to the hospital, he could not be saved. The CPM has called for a hartal in Manjeswaram taluk on Monday afternoon.

The CPM alleged that BJP-RSS workers were behind the murder. The police have arrested RSS worker Ashwith and his friend Karthik.

However, Kasaragod district police chief A Srinivas said that the police were probing the political angle in the murder. A special team of 20 cops has been constituted under Manjeswaram DySP MV Sukumaran to probe the murder.

Security in the area has been tightened to prevent any violence. Condemning the attack, CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, alleged that the RSS-BJP were behind the murder. He added that the Kerala society should be able to isolate and identify communal forces in the state.

Kerala BJP president P S Sreedharan Pillai denied the charge and said the attack was not politically motivated.
