Palod: Vaishami cannot express herself and needs expensive surgery to gain her voice. The four-year-old, second of three children born to daily-wage labourers Biju and Sujita, was born deaf and dumb.

Doctors have told the family that Vaishami's surgery would cost nearly Rs 3.5 lakh. She is 92% challenged, and needs support from kind-hearted people for

the surgery, which doctors say needs to be done when she is five. They are working on developing her speech through an ear-phone therapy.

The family lives in a house built by the panchayat on a 6.5-cent plot. Strangely, they hold a white ration card that does not provide any benefit that is offered to the really poor like them.

An account has been opened at the Vithura branch of Kerala Grameen Bank to raise funds for Vaishami's surgery. Account number 40350101057069. IFS code KLG0040350.
