Kevin murder case: Bail of 2 accused cancelled for assaulting witness

Kottayam: A case has been registered against three accused in the 2018 Kevin murder on charges of obstructing cops from discharging public function as well as for verbal abuse of policemen. Following this, the police moved the court to arrest the accused who are already in remand.

Kottayam East Police registered a case against them after a few policemen from the the Armed Reserve Camp deployed to accompany them complained about the conduct during the first day of the ongoing trial.

The case is against prime accused Sanu Chacko, his father and accused no 5 Chacko John and accused no 7 Shefin.

The accused got into an argument and showered abuses, the complaint says.

Sanu is the brother of Kevin's fiancee Neenu.

Meanwhile, all eight witnesses in the sensational murder case gave statements in favour of the prosecution yesterday.

They included witness no 76 Ammini who is an employee at Amalagiri Hostel; witness no 79 Thankachan who saw Kevin’s father showing his photo in the police station; Sherly, the secretary of Thenmala Cooperative Bank; K Vinish, a bank employee at Edamon in Punalur taluk in Kollam district; Rajith Kumar and Jijo Mon who saw police locating the car of the accused; and Kuttiyamma, who saw police inspect the car of accused no 4 at his house.

Kevin was abducted and reportedly killed near a stream in Punalur last May. The case is considered to be a case of honour killing as the victim belonged to a Dalit Christian family. Neenu's family based here is more economically well-off.
