Pothencode murder case: 'Ottakam' Rajesh arrested

Rival gang members had hacked Sudheesh (left) and chopped off a foot on Saturday afternoon.

Thiruvananthapuram: 'Ottakam' Rajesh, the second accused in the recent Pothencode Sudheesh murder case, has been arrested from Coimbatore in the wee hours of Monday.

Rajesh was at large since the day of the chilling murder of the rival gangster nine days ago. Kerala Police personnel is set to bring him to the state on Monday itself.

On Saturday, a policeman who was part of a three-member squad searching for Rajesh had drowned in the backwaters of Anchuthengu, near Kadakkavur, in Thiruvananthapuram district, as the boat capsized. The cops had got a wrong tip-off the absconding accused was hiding in the Ponnumthuruth islet. Cops had received a few other misleading inputs about Rajesh in the last several days.

A 12-member gang had chased Sudheesh, hacked him and cut off his leg after he took refuge at a relative's house on December 11. The assailants then travelled over half a kilometre with the severed limb and threw it on the road.

A CCTV footage shows a gang of 12 men fleeing the crime scene in an autorickshaw and on two bikes after throwing Sudheesh's foot on the roadside.
