Thiruvananthapuram: In the recently held local body elections in Kerala, the Congress-led UDF emerged ahead with 38.81 per cent of the total votes polled, surpassing the LDF by over five per cent points, according to data released by the State Election Commission on Friday.

A brief report issued by the SEC on the 2025 civic polls showed that the LDF secured 33.45 per cent of the vote share, while the BJP-led NDA came third with 14.71 per cent of the more than 2.12 crore votes cast.

In the six municipal corporations, the UDF garnered 34.95 per cent of the votes, narrowly edging past the LDF, which polled 33.67 per cent. The NDA accounted for 23.58 per cent of the votes in these corporations.

At the district panchayat level, the UDF again led with 39.17 per cent of the vote share, followed by the LDF at 34.02 per cent and the NDA at 13.92 per cent, the SEC said.

The UDF also topped the municipalities with 38.85 per cent of the votes, while the LDF received 29.88 per cent and the NDA 14.40 per cent, according to the commission’s figures.

A comparison of ward-wise outcomes between the 2020 and 2025 local body elections indicated a major shift, with the LDF losing 1,227 wards compared to the previous polls, while the UDF recorded a net gain of 3,082 wards.
