New Delhi: The 23-year-old law student who alleged that BJP leader and former Union Minister Swami Chinmayanand had raped her was questioned by the special investigation team probing the complaint on Tuesday.

Though the girl had raised the allegation last month, Chinmayanand was arrested by the SIT on September 20 only after the girl threatened to set herself on fire over the inaction of the officials.

He was remanded to 14 days in judicial custody when he confessed to the crime on Friday. However, SIT has not charged him with rape yet.

The police booked Chinmayanand under Section 376C (intercourse by a person of authority), 354D (stalking), 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

On September 21, the SIT had booked the law student and three of her friends for extortion and removing evidence. The Allahabad High Court had on Monday refused to grant a stay on possible arrest to the law student. The Allahabad HC had on Monday refused to grant a stay on possible arrest to her.

According to media reports, the girl's brother has denied reports she had been taken into custody and said she was at the SIT office at the Police Lines in Shahjahanpur.
