Well, a plate of idli-manchurian evokes more or less similar sentiments. Yes, our idli has undergone a makeover at this mini restaurant at Thrippunithura, Ernakulam.

One won't miss Idli Kada as it stands head raised at Statue Junction. The restaurant is famous for its special idli preparations and the 'idli chat bhandaar' that opens in the evening. Chilli idli, pepper idli, idli sev, schezwan idli, etc., are some of their most sought after preparations alongside the conventional south Indian counterparts like sambar idli, podi idli, and rasam idli.

Customized idlis

Idli Kada is also famous for their customized idlis – they serve idlis in the size you prefer. Apart from the conventional fist-sized large idlis, Idli Kada serves spoon-sized mini idlis.

Chilli idli is rather a Chinese preparation of spiced and sliced idlis made in a semi gravy consistency. Tomatoes, onions and capsicums wouldn't shy away from twitching your taste buds as they are perfectly blended in special Chinese sauces. All types of idlis are accompanied by powdered dry chutney better known as idli-podi, a coconut chutney and an onion chutney - sambar is served on demand. Strike a perfect combination of these dishes and the chilly idli would simply melt in your mouth.

All spiced up, pepper idli is for those who are looking for a gastronomical adventure. Served in a white plate, the greenish yellow idli pieces spiced with pepper, turmeric, asafoetida and cumin will give a rude wake-up call to your taste buds. Team up with coconut chutney to finish the portion, as the taste won't allow you to waste food. Your last resort can be tomato ketchup as it also goes along great with pepper idli.

Dosa on demand

Don't go by the name, Idli Kada is also famous for their crispy dosa varieties. Must try is the 'special NM masala dosa,' which is a mighty Joe among dosas. If pepper idli was an adventure, NM masala dosa is a gastronomical expedition. stuffed with seasoned vegetable curry, the special dosa is garnished with half melted butter and sprinkled with podi (powdered chutney.) Podi dosa, sambar dosa and special ghee dosa are some other interesting dosa varieties to try out.

The restaurant has also got a variety of tea-time snacks like thairu vada, rasa vada, boondi curd etc. These could also go as starters with main dishes.
