Morkanikkara murder: Four arrested, brawl amid procession led to incident

Thrissur: Four persons have been arrested in connection with a youth's murder during the Kummattikali procession at Morkanikkara here on Wednesday.

Polive have arrested Ananthakrishnan, Akshay, Sreeraj and Jishnu on Thursday morning. Two accused, Viswajit and Brahmajit, are absconding, said an official.

"During the procession, a fight broke out when someone hit a person while dancing. Akhil was stabbed in his throat. According to the witnesses, the victim took flight and ran for about 20 metres  before collapsing on the road in an unconscious state. He was rushed to the Thrissur government general hospital.  He died of heavy bleeding when he tried to run from the spot," said a source from Ollur police station.

Police said they are on the look out for two accused - twin brothers Viswajith and Brahmajith who vanished from the spot. "Both are accused in various criminal cases," the source added.

Akhil (28), a resident of Mulayam was stabbed to death during the procession at Morkanikkara, about nine kilometres away from the town.

Thrissur district hospital authorities said Akhil had died by the time he was brought to the hospital. The body is kept at the mortuary for post-mortem.
