Hungry? Let’s climb the Food Tree

While travelling, the best way to satisfy your hunger pangs is to pull up at the nearest restaurant and munch away on whatever that suits your taste. However, what happens if you feel like having something special—say, some rustic fare that is not easy to find? Well, you just need to pull out your smart phone. A new app called Food Tree offers some great possibilities for Malayalees on the move because it lists for you details about food joints-big and small, in addition to cafes, restaurants and so forth in most parts of Kerala. With Food Tree, searching for food is simple and comprehensive because you can search using a lot of parameters. For example, you can search for sweet dishes, veg dishes, non-veg fare and so on, and the details would be provided to you from www.foodtreeapp.com. Since you also get an idea about the cost of the dish, you can make an ‘informed’ decision on where to go, what to eat and what to skip (pangs notwithstanding). The app, available at Google Play Store, was developed by a team of four at Puissant Info Solutions at the Startup Village. The Malayalees' love for food served as the driving force behind the app, according to Hema Mohan (CEO), Paul Mathew, Sunayana and Sebin—the brains behind the app. The four have been collecting information for the app from various food joints for the past 1.5 years. For a start, foodies can explore Kozhikode, Thrissur, Alappuzha and Thiruvananthapuram and later, they may be able to search for food across the state. While the app would now give information about well-known food and food joints, the developers are planning even to include bakeries in the app. That app could soon turn out to be a rocking-tree app. Until then, let's enjoy what we have on the roads.
