Kottayam: Heavy rain lashed several parts of Kerala on Monday, prompting authorities to declare holiday for educational institutes in some districts on Tuesday.

District authorities have declared holiday for all educational institutions in Ernakulam, including professional colleges. Schools under CBSE and ICSE and Kendriya Vidyalayas will also have holiday.

Wayanad collector has also declared holiday for all schools and colleges and anganwadis as rain continued to lash the hilly district.

In Palakkad district, schools including anganwadis will have a holiday. However, colleges in the district will function, the collector said.

The forest department has banned entry to Gavi in Pathanamthitta until July 12 (Thursday) as a precaution to avoid accidents in heavy rain.

Heavy rain continued to lash Kottayam district throughout Monday.

Kerala has been receiving good amount of rain since the southwest monsoon set in over the state May end.
