Shoranur: A woman and her teenage son were found hanging at their house here on Saturday. The police said that Ajith may have committed suicide after which the mother must have followed suit.

The Thrithala- resident mother-son duo belonging to the nomadic 'Nayadi' community routinely came over to the Shoranur house and their visit raised no suspicion till the bodies were found.

The Shoranur house was reportedly their ancestral home and was opened occasionally for cleaning.

Hemambika, 42, was living with her husband and three children including her deceased son Ajith, 18, at Thrithala.

Suicide notes reportedly recovered from the Shoranur house said that the teenager took his life after his 18-year-old lover returned to her family.

Both had met in a 'Shingarimelam' group at Thrithala and the girl allegedly moved into the Thrithala home with Ajith and stayed there for over two weeks. The girl's family launched a police complaint and she was soon located.

But the police refused to act on the complaint as the couple were both majors. Later the girl's family persuaded her to return home.

It is suspected that Ajith took the extreme step as he could not cope with her return.

The bodies have been sent for autopsy.
