Heavy rain floods roads, triggers landslides in Konni
The Kollanpadi-Athirumkal road and the Pulinjani-Radhappadi road were flooded after the incessant rain.

Konni: An incessant bout of rain in Pathanamthitta district on Saturday caused flooding in at least five stretches of a state highway connecting Punalur and Muvattupuzha and held up traffic for more than three hours. Landslides were reported from Athirumkal.

The Kollanpadi-Athirumkal road and the Pulinjani-Radhappadi road were flooded too, affecting traffic in the area. The incessant rain showed no sign of abating even on Saturday night. A house was damaged in the rain.

The state highway was flooded at Vakayar Societypadi, Market Junction, Thannimoodu, Murinjakal and Nedumankavu. Traffic ground to a halt between Konni and Kalanjoor. Some of these areas were neck-deep in water, prompting the police to regulate vehicle traffic to avoid any accidents. The current was strong too.

A landslide at Athirunkal showered mud and boulders onto the house of Kizhakkethil Sadanandan at Muttakkuzhi. Another landslide disrupted traffic on the Kollanpadi-Athirumkal road near the Chuvattupara temple. Many people were stranded due to the flood.
