Wayanad: A wildfire raging in Bandipur, Karnataka, has caused traffic blocks for hours on Mysore-Ooty Highway. Foresters are trying to control the fire that was first spotted at Gopalaswamy Betta and spread to Vachinahalli and Mel Kammanahalli.

Traffic on Mysore-Ootty Highway was hit for hours and Mel Kammanahalli check post was closed several times. Hectares of forest have been burnt down, Manorama News report. Karnataka foresters along with firemen are trying to douse it.

Strong winds are making the operation difficult. Wayanad reserve is geologically connected to Bandipur forest. If not controlled, the fire might affect the forest inside Kerala too. Foresters are on high alert as 25 hectares in Vadakkanad had burnt down the other day.
