Out on parole on 'health ground', TP murder convict parties in style
Muhammed Shafi, sentenced to life imprisonment for the TP murder, was shaking a leg to loud music even though he had claimed to be sick while applying for 45 days of emergency parole from the Viyyur Central Jail.

Thrissur: A high-profile murder convict serving life sentence was seen partying in a video while on parole on health grounds. Muhammed Shafi, sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of CPM dissident T P Chandrasekharan, was shaking a leg to loud music even though he had claimed to be sick while applying for 45 days of emergency parole from the Viyyur Central Jail.

The video has added fuel to a raging debate about the CPM-led government's soft treatment of the convicts who are perceived to be close to the party leadership. The main convict in the case, Kodi Suni, was also released on parole along with Shafi. Suni was so confident of his connections that he led the abduction of a man in Wayanad while on parole. He was later arrested by the Wayanad police.

The second accused in the case, Kirmani Manoj, got out of the jail on parole last year and got married to a woman with two children.

Even the Kerala High Court has criticised the jail authorities for flouting norms of parole to favour CPM leader P K Kunjananthan, another accused in the case.

Chandrasekharan was brutally hacked to death on May 4, 2012. A special court in February, 2014, sentenced 11 people, including three CPM workers, to life imprisonment in connection with the case.

The murder convict's party video has gone viral at a time when the ruling party finds itself in a spot over the murder of two Youth Congress workers in Kasaragod.
