Kannur: T P Chandrasekharan murder convict Kodi Suni was arrested on Wednesday for the abduction of a Wayanad youth while on parole last year. Suni aka Sunil Kumar, serving life sentence for the murder of the RMP leader in 2012, was arrested by the Koothuparamba police.

Suni is accused of kidnapping Rafshan, a resident of Kaitheri in Wayanad, and detaining him at a resort. Suni and his gang were trying to recover gold alleged to have smuggled into the country from West Asia by Rafshan's brother.

The police have arrested three of Suni's accomplices. The others are at large. The case has 20 accused.

Congress MLA Shafi Parambil took a snipe at Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for going soft on the murder convict. He asked the chief minister, tongue in cheek, to release Suni again on humanitarian grounds.

Chandrasekharan was brutally hacked to death on May 4, 2012. A special court in February, 2014, sentenced 11 people, including three CPI(M) workers, to life imprisonment in connection with the case.

The Chandrasekharan murder case was one of the issues that prominently figured in the previous Lok Sabha polls in Kerala.
