Kochi: The Kerala government on Friday told the High Court that the police have received crucial evidence related to the disappearance of Jesna Maria James. The government passed on the information to the court and requested that the information be kept confidential.
The government representative told the court that the police had received several applications under the Right to Information Act regarding the case. The court told the police to check the motivation behind the flurry of RTI queries. The police have sought more time to complete the investigation.
The court was hearing a petition by Jesna’s brother asking for a CBI probe into the case. Jesna went missing on March 22. This is the first time that the government has revealed that it was in possession of any hints in the case.
The police also submitted a report on progress of the investigation so far, following which the judge adjourned the matter to August 2 for next hearing.
The woman, a second-year B.Com student, went missing on March 22 while on her way to her aunt's house at Mundakkayam in Kottayam district. The police have been searching within various places in Kerala and outside for the woman.
Her brother Jais John James sought a CBI probe, contending that the Special Investigation Team constituted to probe the case could not make headway.
