Parents refuse to send children to school, police release them
The police took action after neighbours and childline workers complained about the confinement of the children.

Kochi: Three children confined to their house were taken away by the police and officials of the Kerala State Council for Child Welfare at Paravoor on Tuesday. Their parents have been slapped with a case for denying the children their right to primary education.

The children, aged 12, 9 and 6, had been confined to their house at Thathappally by their father Abdul Latheef, who believed that school education was detrimental to their development. He had earlier refused to send the children to school despite pressure from local officials including the tehsildar.

Latheef said that he was homeschooling the children but the district collector ordered the police to take them out of their house. The children and their parents will be produced before a magistrate, the police said.

His neighbours and childline workers had complained about the confinement of the children.
