Cherthala: The Kerala government has offered to further develop a temple headed by Vellappally Natesan, the chief of the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam (SNDP).

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and four ministers visited SNDP general secretary Vellappally Natesan’s house here at Kanichukulangara on Monday.

The CM was here to inaugurate the construction of a pilgrim-tourism facilitation centre at the Kalichukulangara Devi Temple. Vellappally has been the president of the temple for 54 years. Responding to Natesan’s plea at the event, the CM promised another Rs 2 crore for a second-stage development at the temple.

The current development project is funded by the state government with the Tourism Ministry spending Rs 4 crore.

The inauguration of the state-funded project insisted by Vellappally and the ministers’ visit comes at a time when the SNDP, which supported the BJP-led NDA in the 2016 assembly polls, seems to be favouring the CPM-led LDF ahead of the Lok Sabha election.
