Cooch Behar Trophy: Vathsal Govind's ton in vain as Kerala crash out

Alappuzha: Kerala were knocked out of the Cooch Behar Trophy Under-19 Championship quarterfinals by Maharashtra, here on Thursday.

Though the match ended in a draw, Maharashtra managed to advance to the semifinals on the basis of having gained the first innings lead.

Maharashtra set Kerala a mammoth 555-run target off 54 overs on the final day. Both the captains decided to end the match with 10 overs remaining.

With an unbeaten 105 from as many balls, Kerala captain Vathsal Govind notched up his fourth ton of the tournament. He is currently the highest run-getter with 1,130 runs from eight matches with a staggering average of 113.

In the semifinals, Maharashta will lock horns with Vidarbha who beat Andhra Pradesh by eight wickets in another last-eight clash.
