Tourism professionals take out anti-hartal march

Anti-hartal march
The protesters rallied with the slogan 'Save Kerala Tourism'.

Kochi: As a protest against hartals and the attack against the German tourists a few days back, the Tourism Professionals Club organised a candle march under 'Save Kerala Tourism' from Marine Drive to Rajendra Ground, here on Tuesday.

The protesters included tour operators, guides, transporters, house boat employees, hotel and home stay staff.

The tourism field faced a huge backlash post the August deluge and now the frequent hartals are denying its revival.

The hartal on Saturday was a shocking experience for 24 Germans on a tour of south India. Twelve doctors and their spouses were travelling from Kochi to Kozhikode on Saturday when three hartal supporters threw stones at their vehicle near Ponnani in Malappuram district. They called off their Kerala trip and moved to Mysuru on Sunday.

The protest was led by the club president Vinesh Vidya, secretary M S Paul, Sarath Aravind, Jimmy Joseph, Ramya Sreejith, Santosh Pai and Ratheesh R Nath.
