Plans to take Kerala's own jackfruit and karimeen to global food market

Jackfruit and karimeen (pearlspot), the state fruit and fish respectively of God’s Own Country have the potential to influence global food markets, said R.P.Group chairman B. Ravi Pillai at a function got up at the Raviz Ashtamudi in Kollam recently.

The popular fruit and the fish are all set for a take off to international markets and discussions were held with top firms to give the two exotic edibles a wider reach, he said.

Jackfruit and karimeen are of course, Kerala’s pride and have a huge market here with the possibilities of their marketing potential being immense. However, turning his attention to Kollam, he said the place deserves to be projected in a much brighter light on the world tourism map.

The function was of special significance in that it was marked by an inauguration of the fruit-fish foodie special. The four Raviz hotels in Kerala and the two in Dubai will from now on have jackfruit and karimeen specials on their menu and the all the hotels will open karimeen clubs as well. Both the ventures were jointly inaugurated by N.K.Premachandran, MP, M.Mukesh, MLA, B.Ravi Pillai and Chief Chef Suresh Pillai.

With Suresh Pillai, the only Malayali chef to be invited to BBC’s very popular Celebrity Chef programme joining the Raviz team, one can expect to see the best of Kerala cuisine on global menus, said N.K.Premachandran.. Pillai will be the corporate head speciality cuisine for the Raviz Hotels and Resorts and executive chef at the the Raviz Ashtamudi.
