Traditional steamed pathiri with spiced prawn filling

Prawns pathiri

After a day’s dedicated fasting, the evenings are a gourmet show with dishes vying with each other to impress you with their taste, flavour and richness. Innovation is the name of the game; but the traditional recipes are seasoned players who are here to stay. How about a traditional stuffed pathiri with a spiced prawns filling? Here goes the recipe.

Ingredients
1.
2½ cups of Ponni rice
2.
8 shallots
½ tsp fennel
Half of a coconut scraped
3.
Half of a coconut scraped
½ tbsp red chilli powder
¼ tsp turmeric powder
4.
½ tbsp red chilli powdered
¼ tsp turmeric powder
Salt as required
5.
½ cup prawns
6.
3 onions chopped finely
5 green chillies finely chopped
1 tbsp coriander leaves finely chopped
2 sprigs of curry leaves, chopped
1 big piece of ginger crushed
8 garlic cloves crushed
Oil as required

Preparation
Soak the rice and grind it along with ingredient no 2
Mix ingredient no 3, fry and set aside.
Mix prawns with ingredient no 4 and deep fry
Saute ingredients no 6 and mix with fried coconut and fried prawns
Make small balls out of the ground rice and pat them on to plantain leaves
Spread the prawn mix over it
Roll out another ball and place it over the prawn mix.
Steam the pathiri
