Kerala HC says can't prevent arrest of ADGP's daughter
The court reportedly observed that the top cop's daughter does not need the court's protection.

Kochi: The Kerala High Court here on Thursday rejected a plea filed by the daughter of ADGP Sudesh Kumar, seeking to prevent her arrest in a case relating to alleged assault of police driver Gavaskar.

The court reportedly observed that the top cop's daughter does not need the court's protection. The Kerala government had opposed preventing the young woman's arrest.

The court has posted the matter for further hearing to next Thursday. On that day, the court will take a decision on her plea seeking to quash an FIR filed against her based on a complaint from Gavaskar.

The woman has been booked under non-bailable charges for allegedly manhandling the official driver following a quarrel. A case was registered against the driver also after the women filed a counter petition, raising serious allegations against him.

According to Gavaskar, the woman hit him with a mobile phone following an altercation between them near the Kanakakunnu palace in the capital city where he had dropped her for morning exercises. In the counter complaint, the woman said her father had on June 13 asked Gavaskar to withdraw himself from driving the car. However, he did not obey the order. Gavaskar filed the complaint against the ADGP's daughter the next day.

According to the woman, she had asked Gavaskar to return to Sudesh Kumar's office after dropping her at Kanakakunnu. However, even when she returned after finishing her exercises, he was still around. When she asked him why he did not go back, he got angry with her. The woman also claimed that he abused her by throwing up caste slurs on her.

Gavaskar's complaint kicked up a row as more police personnel, deployed as camp followers for the personal service of senior officers, have complained against ill-treatment they were facing from the higher-ups and their family members.

Gavaskar, attached to the Special Armed Police camp in Thiruvananthapuram, has been serving as driver for Sudesh Kumar. The ADGP has been transferred from the post of the head of the Armed Police Battalion. He has not been assigned any post yet.
