Thodupuzha: Actor-MP Suresh Gopi has drawn flak with a 'cinematic' visit to Vattavada, the remote village in Idukki that is mourning the brutal murder of its dear son Abhimanyu, the Students Federation of India (SFI) leader who was a degree student at the Maharajas College in Kochi.

The BJP Rajya Sabha member and ex-action star has been lambasted for his lack of propriety in shooting selfies all the way as crowds gathered to watch him.

Topping the lack of propriety, Suresh Gopi used the opportunity to promise development funds to the village from his MP's fund.

The village of migrant farmers had witnessed several visits since Abhimanyu was murdered a week ago, including political and social leaders. They came, pacified the youth's family and left. But Suresh Gopi went on posing for selfie shots, smiling all the way.

Abhimanyu's friends alleged that he converted the visit to a picnic and was carried away by crowds. The social media also unleashed anger at his conduct.

The MP said Abhimanyu's death was a sacrifice against the communal politics of the country. He pledged to sanction funds from his MP's fund if the panchayat's political background allows it. Specifically, he promised supply of drinking water to 400 families there under the 'Abhimanyu Drinking Water Project.'
